To Panama Several airlines provide daily service from gateway cities
directly to Panama City, Republic of Panama. Continental, American and Copa
Airlines provide service from Houston, Miami and Los Angeles. Other airlines
service the area as well.
You will fly into the only international airport in Panama at Tocumen. The airport is on the outskirts of Panama City.
For a variety of reasons we do not include international airfares in our tours.
Arrival
in Panama Upon arrival you will go through immigrations and customs procedures much as you would
at any international airport.
Citizens of many countries do not need visa’s to enter Panama as tourists. Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Australia and nationals of many other countries
can simply fly into Panama City and have a 30-day visa stamped directly into their passport.
It should be noted that a “Tourist
Card” is required to be purchased for US$ 5.00. This card can be purchased
from the airline at the time of check-in at your gateway city or at the immigration desk during entry procedures in Panama.
You are allowed to bring personal possessions up to a value of US$
3000 so there are no problems bringing any sports gear that you may want during your holiday.
Firearms, drugs and other such items are prohibited the same as most other countries.
Once you have cleared immigrations you will proceed to the baggage claim and
customs area of the airport. Simply pick up a free cart, collect your baggage and move to the exit area where your bags will
be quickly run through an x-ray machine. After your bags go through the x-ray
process you can exit the customs area.
Just after you exit the customs area you will be greeted by the smiling face
of one of our bi-lingual guides / drivers who will escort you to the exterior of the building to an air conditioned van for
transport to your hotel in Panama City. Have any questions in route? Just ask
your guides, they will be more than happy to tell you about their city and country.
Due to the fact that most airlines arrive in Panama late in the day, we have
found that it is advantageous to overnight our guest in air-conditioned comfort in Panama City and get a good start to Pedasi
in the morning. This scenario also fits in with our plan to let our guests experience
local flavors, sights and customs.
The hotels we have selected in Panama City are all located within easy walking
distance (2-4 blocks) of the center of the city where you can enjoy an infinite variety of cuisine, shopping, casinos and
nightlife. The hotels are air-conditioned and have cable television.

A Couple of our
Bi-Lingual Guides

To Pedasi The next morning you will
have breakfast at the hotel and then your guide will show up for your ride to Pedasi. Then, you will be
transported in a comfortable air-conditioned van for the four-hour trip.
In-route, you will
traverse the famous Bridge of the Americas, which spans the Panama Canal and then proceed on the Pan America Highway where
you will pass through numerous small and medium sized towns. For the most part,
the Pan American Highway is a good 4-lane highway although a few miles are still 2 lane with 2 additional lanes under construction.
At approximately the halfway point your guide will stop at a rest area where you can stretch,
have a snack and shop at the small local vendors outside the rest area.
After turning off of the Pan American Highway you will go through the medium sized towns
of Chitre’ and Los Tablas before arriving in Pedasi.
Arrival in Pedasi
Upon arriving in Pedasi you will be taken directly to your hotel where again, we have chosen hotels with air-conditioning
but for the more eco-tourism minded guests we also include the Dos Mares, “Two Tides” eco-lodge that has a beautiful
ocean view with Isla Iguana in the background. No A/C here as there is no electricity
and water is from a well that is operated by wind power. Sea breezes do a nice job of cooling.
It is necessary to take a short boat ride to Dos Mares as there are also no roads to the property.
Lodging choices include:
Dos Mares Eco-Lodge

Dim’s Hostel

Residencia
Pedasi

After checking
into your accommodations your guide will take you to one of the local restaurants where you can experience your first local
meal and perhaps an ice-cold beer.
After lunch you will go to the center of our operation, Buzos De Azuero, the
only sporting facility in the area. Here you will be outfitted with any gear
you may need for snorkeling and will then be transported to Isla Iguana for an afternoon of relaxation at this small island
just 2 km from the mainland. One of our other secondary activities may be scheduled in place of the snorkel trip.
The Buzos De Azuero shop is the jumping off point for all of our activities and
is just a short walk from Residencia Pedasi and DIM’S Guest House accommodations. All parties will meet at this location to start and end their daily
activities.
Our manager, Asier Bengoetxea, will supervise the scheduling of all
activities, preparation of equipment, etc.
Departure The procedures for departing
Pedasi, if you can drag yourself away, are pretty much the reverse of your arrival.
You will be picked up by your bi-lingual guide at your hotel and be driven back
to the hotel in Panama City following the same procedures as your trip to Pedasi. You
can again enjoy the nightlife in Panama City, get a good nights rest and breakfast.
Our guide will pick you up at the hotel in plenty of time to get to the airport, check-in and do a little duty free
shopping before your flight home.
